Bouygues E&S, an Equans company, help to provide patients at Broomfield Hospital with a breath of fresh air
Bouygues Energies and Services (Bouygues E&S), an Equans company, were delighted to be invited to attend the opening of a new Critical Care Garden at Broomfield Hospital, where we provide a hard FM service. The team on site were heavily involved in the creation of the garden, which offers patients and their visitors the chance to relax in a pleasant open-air garden.
The General Intensive Care Unit (GICU) supports some of the most vulnerable patients in the hospital, often for prolonged periods of time. Previously, these patients’ access to the outdoors was constrained by the battery life of the cylinders powering their life-critical equipment. Furthermore, the outdoor spaces available were shared with members of the public, leading many patients to feel vulnerable and exposed after long debilitating illnesses.
Thankfully, our team were able to assist in overcoming some of these challenges. Using their technical expertise, the team on site carried out the electrical install that allows patients to be supported by their necessary equipment at all times and be free from the restrictive lifespan of batteries. In addition, the privacy of the garden gives patients the opportunity to relax in nature away from the eyes of the world. Now, they can seek respite and catch a breath of fresh air away from the confines of a clinical environment.
The team on site have received overwhelmingly positive praise for their help in lifting the spirits and wellbeing of patients. Benedicte Punchard, Senior Charge Nurse for Critical Care, shared his glowing compliments:
“The Bouygues E&S team were so receptive and proactive in helping us establish the Critical Care Garden for our patients in the GICU at Broomfield Hospital. Having an outdoor space dedicated for the use of critical care patients in which they can continue to be looked after by our team and be visited by their families, friends and even their pets will and has already had an impact on their well-being that it cannot be underestimated. Thanks again to the Bouygues E&S team for helping give this project wings.”
Bouygues E&S, an Equans company, General Manager on site, Stefan Bush, enthused:
“It has been a pleasure to get the team involved with assisting this project through to completion and to see patients consistently benefitting from the area now.”
